The Customs Anti Smuggling Bureau (CASB) is a specialised law enforcement agency of the Department of Customs, which is responsible for investigating and preventing smuggling activities in Sri Lanka.
The CASB was established in 1984, under the Customs Ordinance No. 18 of 1982, as the Customs Preventive Service. In 1997, the name of the organisation was changed to the Customs Anti Smuggling Bureau.
The CASB is headed by a Director, who is assisted by two Deputy Directors. The Bureau consists of three divisions, namely the Investigation Division, the Intelligence Division and the Enforcement Division.
The main functions of the CASB are to conduct investigations into smuggling offences, to collect intelligence on smuggling activities, to provide training on customs laws and procedures to customs officers, and to carry out enforcement operations against smugglers.
